Solar Storms

We are having storms from the Sun, as in solar storms. So the Sun puts out huge amounts of energy. One in a form of a blast of light, we call this a solar flare. The coronal mass ejection is where the sun burps out billions of tons of material from its magnetic field. Both of these travel to the Earth. Solar flares only take 8 minutes and coronal mass ejections take a couple of days to reach us. When the solar flares hit the Earths atmosphere it heats up and disrupts communication. The mass coronal ejection comes like a hurricane and when it hits our magnetic field it disrupts electrical currents. This in turn can disrupt our power grids and communication. These storms happen in a cycle, sort of like a hurricane season. They are on an eleven year cycle. Right now we are in the lower end but we will continue to pick up intensity.
